Amanda Simmons makes kiln formed and cameo engraved glass vessels from her studio in Corsock, Dumfries & Galloway.

She is fascinated by structures created using gravity whilst the glass heats in the kiln, the vessels becoming more complex as she experiments using hand-built suspension moulds.

Amanda constructs the glass using layers of coloured mostly opaque glass powders.

Her aim is to create very delicate, elusive work that reacts to the light it is placed in, showing variations in the intense colour and marks. She uses printmaking to inform the glass designs trying out different pattern and colour combinations before committing to glass.
